AFT Change Fluid Recommendations, 300E 124

Its that time again and I want to make sure I am doing the right thing.

3 years ago I replaced the transmission fluid and filter with dextron III on the recommendation of a Service adviser that worked at a Benz service facility.
It is not blood red anymore so that is typically my signal to change; no issues yet and no burn smell etc. Car has 190k kms on it and have had no transmission work. Is there agreement that Dextron the acceptable transmission fluid or are there reasons I should be using something else? Is there any merit in using the Lucas products as a supplement as well or are they simply a waste of $?

Cheers,

Walter

Stick with Dexron III.
If you really really really want to add something then try B&M Trick Shift, but that's it. IMHO.

And, we are also draining the torque converter when we change the filter & fluid, right?

Just ATF.

Additives are like crack, once you start the trans on it, it'll need it from then on.

Correct. There is quite a bit of fluid that comes out of the torque converter when you drain it.

Try the Febi ATF, torque the pan to specs and use a new filter and gasket.
I have heard the El Ring brand filters not making it past one year so try and get a Mercedes Benz one from your dealer.
No additives and do not touch the valve body with anything.
