W126 third brake light housing removal

How do you take apart the thrid brake light housing on a W126? I've looked through my Haynes manual and the MB manuals and can't find any reference to the "how to".

Thanks.

The upper housing will slide toward you / forward out of its mount.

There is a rear cover that can be removed with the CHMSL (Center High-Mount Stop Lamp) installed in the car for replacing the bulb, but I have about 0 for 5 luck in getting the damn thing open without breaking one tab, and having to order a new one. Best of luck.

To take the whole assembly out, grab both sides with your hands and pull out. The assembly should slide right out. To take off the cover to access just the bulb, there are 2 tabs on each side of the housing. Use a flat blade screwdriver and pry open the tabs gently. Over time the whole brake light assembly gets sunburned and VERY fragile! So be careful and proceed with caution.

Edit: Got beat. :P

I decided to replace the third brake light bulb in mine when I bought the car. The darn assembly just crumbled in my hands when I tried to remove it. I have done searches to find a replacement but to no avail. I would like to replace it, however I cannot find a place for interior parts. I need a few other misc. interior parts as well. Any help? 1983 300SD
