Arthur Dalton?

I've been reading this forum for a few years now, I always appreciated posts by Arthur Dalton. I haven't seen a post from him in about a month, anybody know if something happened to him?

Hopefully all is well with him.

babymog 09-16-2009 10:45 AM

I don't know either. I tried sending him an email about a week or so ago, no response (yet).

Hopefully he's just taking a break.

lorainfurniture 09-16-2009 11:01 AM

I was wondering as well.... I owe him a window cleaning! :)

Texholdem 09-16-2009 02:55 PM

All the best wishes to Arthur Dalton, I am missing his postings.

pawoSD 09-16-2009 03:48 PM

Same here! I did notice he wasn't posting lately. Hopefully he will be back soon!

LarryBible 09-16-2009 07:21 PM

I've had many such thoughts over the years when frequent posters disappear. I always first pray that nothing serious happened to them or in their lives, then I just watch for them and hope to see them again. Usually, when a month goes by, they're gone for good. A few have come back after a long time, but usually they just disappear, hopefully only to do other things and not due to a bad twist in life.

mpolli 09-16-2009 08:06 PM

Whatever happened to psfred?

slk230red 09-16-2009 09:36 PM

I see that Arthur's last post was on 8-18-09. I hope he's doing ok.

cphilip 09-16-2009 09:47 PM

I sent him an email asking about him... Hope everything is well with him

Gents,

Thank for so many concerns..

The reason for my last posting on this Forum being 8/18/09 is b/c that was my Tenth Year date [ 8/18/99 - 8/18/09 ].
I had mentioned in some of my post for the last few months that I would be leaving when I got to either 10,000 post or my Tenth Year date, whichever came first.
So, I thought most were aware of those plans...guess I should have left an Exit Post on 8/18....

Anyway, A Decade here has been enough for me , and most of my last couple years post were just repeats of Archieves info ... so I have moved on to a new [ and completely different] Venue.

Anyway...Many thanks to all , and specially to the orignators of the Forum.
Seems like yesterday that most of us Vets all came over here from Alt.Autos.Mercedes. Times change , new people come , the Forum continues...........

babymog 09-16-2009 10:15 PM

Welcome back, for the moment. Wish you were staying, ... you can still make the 10k post goal, ...

You will be missed.

My thoughts exactly, and the reason for this thread.

Thank you for the ten years, though I have only been on this board about a year and a half. The help you have provided, both in person and the archives has been invaluable.
You are a gentleman and a scholar, I trust time will treat you well.

Sorry to see you go, Arthur. You've helped me immensely over the years, answering my questions and pointing me in the right direction to solve my Mercedes problems. You will be missed!

pawoSD 09-17-2009 03:01 AM

I'm setting my goal at 100,000 posts....that should keep me here for a while. :D

You will be missed by the forum, your posts have always been informative and helpful.

LarryBible 09-17-2009 08:33 AM

I'm glad that Arthur is okay. Not a bad idea, ten years. I'm only a few months away from the ten year mark.

This forum, as do all things in life, has changed a lot in the last ten years. It doesn't even have the same URL. When I stumbled onto it, I and my family were driving the daylights out of several 123 diesels. I posted a question on some obscure forum that was mostly UK folks. I didn't get an answer, but I got a response saying that I should post the question on this forum called Mercedesshop.com and that I would get my question answered by a Pro within an hour. That was exactly what happened and for several years I was really hooked on the forum.

Unbeknownst to me at that time, I was closer to the end than the beginning of the every day MB driving chapter of my life. I would have really made use of Mshop had it been available to me beginning in 1977.

I wish Arthur and all the other regulars that I have sort of gotten to know over the years all the best. I've seen them come, and I've seen them go. I hope life is serving them all well.

I drifted away from the forum about a year and a half ago myself. Actually, out of frustration, I left for short periods before that. Upon returning, it seems that there aren't very many of the old hands still posting, but I always enjoy seeing old names on the posts.

I suppose the ten year mark might be a good time to just move on as Arthur did. Since the ones that I really got to know over the years, some of them even face to face, are no longer here, maybe my changing interests could flourish by moving on. Strike that, with my Dad in the Alzheimers wing of the Texas State Veterans Home nearby and my Mom coming to live with us in a week or two, there won't be time for any recreational interests anyway.

Since I'm not wrenching on MB's on a regular basis any more, I don't have very much to offer any more anyway.

Pete Geither 09-17-2009 08:42 AM

Thanks Arthur,,, you were always a class act.:)

71Rcode 09-17-2009 08:59 AM

Arthur, thanks for helping me about four+ years ago.... Your patience and pdf files were always appreciated. Let us know where you're going ;)

Larry, nothing to offer? No way, man. Lots to offer.

PhantomLord 09-17-2009 09:07 AM

Thanks Arthur, And All the Best.

The wrenching has turned into yard work now that I have moved to the country. They typically spend the weekend with me helping out. We have been trying to clean the growth up around parts of the lake. It took four weekends to clean the growth off of the dam. I will eventually have another shop. Always alot of stuff to do when you have a bunch of land around your house and it is an old house. Right now I'm learning all I can about roof work getting ready to re-roof it.

yal 10-19-2009 10:36 AM

Will miss you Arthur.

Some of us old forum timers just pop in every now and then. So I definitely missed your post about the 10 year thing :)

junqueyardjim 10-19-2009 01:49 PM

So long, Arthur

We hope you will stop in and visit now and then. I always enjoyed reading your posts. I could tell Arthur knew what he was talking about. We will miss that! Jim

I certainly understand the logging portion of land ownership. It's a constant battle. Not only the trees and brush around where you don't want it, but keeping the sprouts from turning into trees in the pastures.

I'm glad to hear that the boys are involved with it. My son and I spent lots of time clearing brush and cutting firewood from the time he was about six until he went off to college. The second Christmas he was home from college we had a terrible ice storm that took down lots of heavy branches around the house. We spent several days with a chainsaw trying to clean up the mess. He said he thought he was finished with that part of his life. Now that he's almost 30 he's kind of ready to help me with such things when he visits. Maybe the city life wasn't what he thought it would be.

Arthur,
Thanks too for all your wisdom and help. Best in your new pursuits.

I just read in another thread in Diesel Discussion that Arther is missed. I did some searching to find out what happened. Iam sad to see an experienced person leave for any reason, this is sort of like an extended family. I have only been here 2 yrs and 8 mo, so still a little green around the ears. wish I could have found this forum back in 1999 when it started.

Arther really helped me understand "How to determine friction Preload" in the differentials. Thank You so much for that bit of information.

I wish you the best is what ever you do, and I hope our paths cross some time in the future.

take care

Charlie

t walgamuth 01-10-2010 09:36 AM

I just skimmed down and am surprised to see I have not posted on this thread.

Arthur was and is indeed a classy individual with vast knowledge and an equally generous spirit who always had exactly the right answer and never anything but total courtesy and patience with those less experienced.

He is missed, I am sure by one and all.

agplate 01-10-2010 01:57 PM

How about a 'best of Arthur' post containing informative links?

LarryBible 01-12-2010 11:06 AM

I'm going to follow Arthur Daltons lead and call 10 years enough. I started posting 10 years ago this month and my MB is no longer my daily driver.

I enjoyed it and my best to everyone.

Larry

Thanks to all who have contributed to this forum. Arthur helped me get a 250SL back on the road. Larry has helped me with many mercedes issues, as have t_wal and others.

I just wanted to give these wonderful people a big :thumbup1: and thanks.

Well, now you've screwed up, Arthur. You posted again after your tenth anniversary. So, I guess you'd better stay until your 10,000th post or something . . .

Arthur Dalton 01-13-2010 01:18 PM

That was not a Posting..
It was in responce to a Thank You.... :):)

A simple Thanks here will get the Poster more responce than one could ever imagine.

We'll see you until at least post #10,000 now, right? Either that or you'll have to hang around until your fifteen year anniversary. This place is like the Hotel California. You can check in anytime you like, but you can never leave . . .

hanno 01-13-2010 03:38 PM

More like Monty Python...its not official posting, he's posting in his spare time:D

thanks Arthur! Always learned somthing when I read your words.

As a newcomer to the Forum and new again to owning an MB after too many years I have to say thanks to all who have posted here their incredible depth of knowledge.

The volumes posted here are such time and effort savers based on the experience of 'hands on' and there is no replacement for that.

Sorry to see 2 senior members leave and will express my hope mirrored by many, many members that neither of you will be total strangers. The wealth of your knowledge and skills are far to valuable I hope to not continue on occasion of sharing them.

Kudo's also the remarkable job the admins do here also. Regardless of subject matter this is one of the best organized and run boards Ive been a member of.

ramonajim 01-13-2010 04:46 PM

Count me among the many who have been helped by Mr. Dalton (Gretel's grumpy ABS sensors).

Well presented, thoughtful, and instructive advice - helped me to not only solve my specific issue, but also learn more about the systems & physics involved. Lessons that I've since been able to apply to other issues!

Best of luck to you Arthur, and thank you for your time and effort. Please know that it has been appreciated.
