I feel dumb for posting... but where to put jack on w124?
 

Hey, yea... I was cleaning out my car today. (My dad had left a lot of junk in it)... and I came across the jack just sitting in the trunk. Since I was putting everything back to normal, I figured id put the jack back... one problem, I can't seem to figure out where it goes... Anyone know where im supposed to put the thing? Or is it supposed to just sit in the trunk? Thanks...

The 124 that we have has the jack lodged in a cavity by the side of the spare tyre in the trunk - on the right hand side I think. Insert the jack in, and pump it up till it catches onto the ledge.

Hmm... im not getting this to work here. I took out the spare, and checked both sides of the spare tire well. There is a little "indention" on the right side, but there is no way I can get the jack in there.... it just wont fit... am I doing something wrong?!

Maybe it depends on the model year.

On my 1990 and 1991 300Es, the jack stays to the rear of the spare tire (toward the bumper). There should be some metal retainers to hold the jack.

To me, the MB jack is useless so I do not keep it in the trunk. I carry a small bottle jack in the trunk.

I see 1 possible retainer... but even with it holding the jack... the jack slides all around the place... making way too much noise... am I just hopeless??!!

It's been a while since I last used it and I am not near the car.

I believe you turn the threads of the jack so it expands and fit the slot and retainer tightly.

ok... somebody... please please please run out to their car and take a look at the jack placement... im sitting here covered in old brake dust and jack grease... and I still can't get the stupid thing to fit!!!!!! Ive tried expanding it, contracting it... breaking it... cursing at it... nothing works!!!!! There is no way I can get the jack into the retaining clip and into the slot that runs along the right side of the spare tire well at the same time... its just impossible. I can't just put the jack in the spare tire well because that thing amplifies sound...and whenever I hit a bump... the jack sounds like I just broke an axle or something... so please! Somebody end my humiliation and find out where and how to put the jack in the trunk of my car!!!

If your jack is the same as the ones I have had in each of my cars, and they were all exactly the same, it is a simple threaded rod in a sleeve with a worm gear at the top and a nut on the threaded rod with the prong that engages the jacking sleeve on the car. It is black and is about 18 inches long. These units get installed in the trunk after winding the prong down to the bottom of its stroke. Then you should see a little galvanized sheet steel clip in the trunk, and in one corner or the other of the tire storage well there should be a little cloth like material glued to the side wall, near the bottom. There is another little fabric patch where the base of the jack goes, that is also in the same corner, but it is on the little shelf like surface the jack rests on. The jack is put into the trunk with the prong resting on the little fabric patch at the bottom of the corner, and the clip goes over the body of the jack. The handle is not covered by the clip and is on the topside of the jack, kind of hanging around loose. The clip is pretty tight, and the jack does not flop or bang around in there. Good Luck, Jim

The jack lays horizontal at the edge of that tire compartment. There is a little metal tab that holds it in. Look at the owners manual, there is a good picture of how it fits in.

No need to get excited. Lets take this step by step.

Wind down the jack so that is clammed up. Look for the cavity to stick that jack in. Then wind-up (jack it up) till it holds the cavity like Atlas holding the world on its shoulder.

Hmmm ... that didnt sound quite right.

Lets see if I could transmit this by ESP.

hehe... thanks guys... as you could tell... I was quite frustrated :-) Oh well. I, unfortunetaly, don't have the manual for the car... my dad managed to misplace it. Yea... I will try to put the jack back into place tomorrow morning... and lets hope I don't have such a hard time ;)

Just stay off 6th street tonight and you should be able to figure it out in the morning! :D

Turn the handle until the jack part is near the top, then just clip it in:
