Question 89 190E no voltage to fuel pump or coil

My 190E stall on me like it ran out of gas I check the fuel pumps no voltage also no voltage to the coil. Rewire the pumps and they are now working but should I run a new wire to the coil? What made it lose voltage to start with? Check the ovp relay there one 10A fuse that good, all the the fuses in the fuses box are good.. Can the fuel pump relay do this? Where is it and how do you test it? Also in the fuse box one of the small relay is missing it been replace by a wire with a inline fuse 15A sometime the car won't start till I play with that wire but it have never made the car stall it seem to be for the pump, I can't get the wire out and I can't get the fusesbox out to see what going on under there.
