1989 driveline bracket/bearing

I can't do this job myself...

The indie says the old one has to be pressed off and the new one pressed on

Does this sound right?

Also should I go ahead and do the front flex disc while he is up there?

the pull off is done with a generic 3 jaw gear puller and the press on is done with a PVC pipe and hammer, its pretty simple actually. Be sure to apply some long life CV joint grease on the splines and a tea spoon worth each in the end bushings of the driveshaft.

Be sure to tighten the big clamping nut between the shafts to 30-40 Nm, and no more. This will allow the shafts to slide a bit on the splines as the drivetrain moves about. No real special tool needed, just use a big pipe wrench or something and estimate the tightening torque.

I got about 2 tablespoons worth of Honda moly 60 from a mechanic I know, its used on the Honda shaft drive motorcycle drive splines, That thing can take immense beatings. I mixed it with some CVJ grease.

MB specifies olistamoly LL grease - which can also be subsituted for Lubro moly LM47 langzetfett mit MOs2. It costs about 4 dollars at NAPA.
