89 300E Crank sensor help
Hey guys on a 1989 mercedes 300E, 3.0L inline 6 where is the crank sensor front or back, also how do you test it to see if it is working right and if somebody has the right specs that would be awesome. Thanks

The crank sensor is in the rear on the bellhousing. It's right above the starter and has a 5mm allen bolt holding it in.

My CPS measures 851 ohms cold, and 924 ohms hot. Looks something like this: http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...ed/300EICM.jpg http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...Sensor300E.jpg |

It's a magnetic sensor w/ no electronic parts. They're pretty reliable and usually don't fail unless the unit is mechanically damaged. One last point; If it was "bad", the car wouldn't run! |

My car had a crank sensor that still measured within spec....but was causing problems. If its original it is probably a good idea to replace it.
