Emissions Test Failure 190E

Need to pass Emissions, it passes at idle, but at the 25mph test is fails. I'm in the middle of replacing, plugs, wires, dist. cap and button, as well as the air filter. Is there anything else I can do to help my 1990, 190E 2.6 pass?

I've considered replacing the EGR valve also, isn't there a test that can be done to it to test proper operations before I go and replace it?

You really need to tell us why it did not pass and what the exhaust gas readings were at the time of failure. Be sure to change your engine oil and also drive the car on the interstate for about a hour before you get your smog check and do not turn the engine off when you get to the inspection station, hot catalytic converters always help.

check your pre-cats, thats what failed mine.

but worker unit is right, we need more info

If his 1990 190E 2.6 is like my 1990 190E 2.6 [Calif. Model], it does not have pre cats, just one big catalyst. But we need much more info to be much help.

Hmmm, I should be able to provide more info... although honestly I don't know enough about emissions test. I'll try to track down that "failed test sheet" or get another copy of it in the near future, then post whatever info it provides on here (or maybe a scan of it since I don't know what info is important).

Thanks for the responses though Gents, I really appreciate it!

That would be a great place to start.

The '91 190E I owned needed a new catalytic converter. Plan on $5-600 installed and tested.

Could just be an O2 sensor. You need to post all the readings they got.
