Water pump and steering box

Is it usual for a water pump to let loose at 90K miles on an 87 560SEL? Is it more unusual for it to happen when it is in the shop for a steering box rebuild?

Should these issues have been detected during a 90K mile checkup (200 miles/2 weeks ago)?

Just wondering.

Love the sedan, but wondering what else to expect in the nearterm?

Waterpump

At 90k miles a failed waterpump would not be unusual,It would not be unusual for the p/s gearbox to require a reseal.
