flash rate too fast.

Does anyone have any experience with a year 2000 210 model with flashers that flash too fast?
ALL bulbs have been changed with correct replacements, all are working but just too fast!
Any suggestions gratefully received.

There is a flasher relay under the hood, driver's side.

And FYI - bulbs don't control flash speed - the relay mentioned above does. The energizing contact is probably not making it all the way back to the "home" position before it's energized again - or the timing part of circuit (in the relay) could be going south.

Unless stated otherwise, any question I ask is about my greymarket 1985 380SEL.

Your bulbs are not as correct as you think, or you have a weak connection somewhere.

Most modern designs have a current sensor inside the flasher and if your bulbs (any signal bulb) is drawing too little current, the microcontroller inside the flasher senses it and goes into a fast blink mode. This is a safety feature to tell you one of your bulbs is potentially not doing its job showing others of your signaling. I'd consider 2000 modern.

A normal flash rate is about 1 Hz.
A sick flash rate is about 2 Hz.

Both of these signaling rates are within specifications of my local traffic law. I checked once. When was I designing a product that dealt with signaling on vehicles.

How fast is fast? If you're getting a rate much faster than 2 Hz, you have a sick system, probably a flasher fault or a wiring fault. In the old days, you'd check to see if you mistakenly put a 6 volt flasher into your 12 volt system.

There is no separate relay to control the flashers AFAIK.
According to the wiring diagram the signal comes through the front SAM which has been substituted for another to no avail.
We've also tried swapping the cluster, the alarm siren and the PSE pump.
All bulbs have been renewed and still the problem persists.
Getting short of ideas....

I had a super fast blink rate on a different make of vehicle (along with other strange indicator symptoms) that wound up being traced to a bad ground...

You never know.

You could be right. I looked at a locations diagram and it shoed the relay module, but that may be because the SAM is plugged into it on the bottom.
