300E Crz Control Repair
The cruise control on a '86 300E expired. One estimate was $1000 plus, said they had to take apart the dash. Sounds a little questionable. Any wisdom on this item? Ed

The control unit is up under the dash on the drivers' side. Not a big deal to replace, but the part is $$$. Labor time should be about 1 hour. If the actuator is being replaced as well(left side of engine, beneath intake) add about another hour or two. 124 cruise control repairs usually require more in parts than labor. Good luck

Ed:
Call Peter at GDL (805 772-5127) he can help you troubleshoot it and give you instructions for uninstalling the two components. Worse case scenario is you're looking at less than half of your estimate plus shipping both ways. He warranties his work, his website is www.gdl-online.com. You'll have to do the uninstall/install yourself, but it is straightforward, my amp and actuator are back to 100% and scheduled to arrive tomorrow! I have been very satisfied with their service.
