300sel 89 vibration

My car has slight vibration on highway speeds 110Km and above. This is felt in the body of the car. My mechanic did take a look at it by removing the rear drive shaft. The universal is free in one direction and is slighly binding in the other. Lubrication on it lossened it a bit not completely. Shimming the tranny mount did help a bit.

Can the binding at the universal be removed and ideas

Sandeep - you indicated vibration thru the body. The drive shaft and U-joints are not a bad place to look as your mech. has done. Even so, don't overlook front-end suspension parts, front alignment and tire balance.

Also check the rims - for at that age, some rims just find it hard to be balanced.

Thanks for the inputs. The rims, alignment, balancing and also the susspension components have been checked.

mechanic says that drive shafts (both as they are balanced) will only cure the problem as the universal cannot be replaced. Big dollars!

Considered trying salvage yards?
