Window weather stripping on E320 cabriolet (or coupe?)
The vertical weather stripping attached to the leading edge of the rear quarter window (drivers side) has started to come apart and catches when raising the front window. Has anyone managed to replace this weather stripping, or does the entire rear quarter window need to be replaced?

Neil, not sure whether you can purchase new weather stripping, but the obvious solution to prevent further wear on the existing weather stripping is to open the door before you raise the window. That particular weather stripping on our 1991 & 1992 300CE's is good as new. You must open/close your front windows frequently.

Appreciate the tips.
Enquired with my local MB dealer who said the seals are not available separately, I need to replace the rear glass at over $340  Enquired with Phil and it seems the seals are available separately from the glass at a much more reasonable $32 ea. So I ordered both sides. Left Lateral Window Seal SPECIAL ORDER 1246700939 Right Lateral Window Seal SPECIAL ORDER 1246701039 Installation will be interesting. |
Changing left and right lateral window seals

The window seals arrived. But despite staring at the parts for a while, it was not clear how to remove the old seals and install the new ones without removing the glass from the car.
Having removed the drivers side rear window - quite an involved job on the cabriolet, it became immediately obvious that the old seal could be carefully pried out. Then, using a soapy solution as a lubricant - the new seal slid into the metal channel from the top of the glass. So, the drivers side took several hours, the passenger side less than 10 mins. :D During this job, various bits of foam insulation disintegrated on contact - including a foam strip stuck to the bottom of the glass. I found that closed cell pipe insulation cut to size works well as a replacement. |
