CLK320 Error Code P0335

2001 CLK320 103000 miles

The car occasionally stalls when idling, or doesn't start at all. When it starts, the check engine light stays on for a while and then it goes out. The last time it stayed on I connected a code reader and got P0335 - Crankshaft Position Sensor.

1. Does this mean the CPS is defective, or could something else related to the sensor throw this code?
Looking at it it looks like it has never been touched in its life.

2. Could metal particles and debris collect on the sensor and cause this error code? Is it worth cleaning and reinstalling it, or should I just replace it?

Thanks

That code means the crank sensor has an electrical fault.
Replacement parts are less than $100.

MB numbers are 003-153-27-28 (Bosch) or 003-153-28-28 (AB Electronic).

Not be anal, but the code means the crank sensor circuit has an electrical fault. This includes the sensor, connectors & wiring.

Of course, without the proper tools, the easiest thing to do would be to replace it.

Unless there's a big chunk of metal clinging to it between it and crankshaft, cleaning it won't do any good.

I installed the new part and everything is working well. The check engine light reset itself.

Thanks for your help gentlemen.
