anybody know how to fix an LCD temp guage
'93 190E
The little LCD guage doesn't work - it reads +136 sometimes when I first start it up then it goes blank. Most of the time it's blank. Not crucial but I'm wondering if there is some fix for it that doesn't require getting a new or used replacement. I'm good with a soldering iron. |
I've pulled them apart and its a pretty tricky one...If it is reading WRONG, I would first suspect its probably the sensor, but if its turning off entirely you could give resoldering it a shot. There are 2/4 small screws depending on the model as they changed its design a few times and it pops right open in your hand.
I cannot stress how careful you NEED to handle the LCD with though. It will crack or leak VERY easily so handle with the utmost care. Trust me I have gone through about 3 that I found at the junkyard, put it in my pocket and next thing I knew I came to pay and it was leaking color. |
I'm not as sophisticated with the solder, but I ended up needing to replace the sensor. I know, $85 part, but on ebay you can get a used one for $25 if the solder doesn't work out.
good luck Cam |
I have two non-cracked ones if you want to buy them off me cheap...just send me a PM with which "type" yours is. I took em from the junkyard, but when I got home noticed they were different and wouldn't fit mine. The pin layouts for the plug are different depending on model.
