300E overfilled transmission
The trani on the 300E is starting to slip so I checked the fluid thinking it might be low and it's overfilled
How do I drain the excess fluid? Through the dipstick housing or from below? |
Are you sure you checked it correctly.
Engine HOT, park on level ground, cycle through each gear, and then place in N, and check fluid. Did this happen all of a sudden? |

yes check it in N

ok will do thanks! :)

Why would neutral or park make any difference? Park is just neutral with the parking prawl engaged.
I've never heard this before. Also, the owners manual says to check it in Park. |
When I check it in P it is always higher than when i check it in N for some reason, the stick also has lot of bubles on the stick making it hard to read the level when i check it in P.
I have always heard to check it in N. |
I've always checked my cars in park, just cause I don't like standing in front of a running car to begin with, never mind without the park pawl and parking brake firmly engaged.
Nothing is more terrifying than being outside your car when it starts to move, and you are the driver. If your tranny is really overfilled, you can either slip a thin (think fishtank air) hose down the dipstick tube and pump/siphon some out, or I suppose you could pop off the tranny cooler line where it goes into the radiator. |
well then i guess it makes no difference, i just always do it in N with the parking brake set.

Well in both Park and Neutral it's still reading above the max line -_- What is recommended for draining the excess fluid?

You will likely only be run over by a car once in your life, keep parking brakes engaged and automatic transmissions in Park when working on a vehicle with it's engine running. Bad things do happen, don't temp Murphy....... |
