Talking Time to gloat - Pics of our newly acquired 190E 2.3!

I finally got around to taking some pics of the newly acquired 1993 190E 2.3 that we located for my sister to replace her dead minivan....

It is Black on Black Tex....

About the car: It has 197k on it but it has had done in the recent past:

-Head Gasket
-Water Pump/Belt Drive System all new
-Alternator
-CIS System calibrated and parts replaced (including potentiometer AND EHA!)
-Brand new tires
-Transmission was replaced in August
-Virtually no rust
-Interior is near perfect/all original (including MB radio and tape drawers)
-Brakes completely re-done (calipers AND all rotors, with MB rotors!!)

We paid hardly anything for it....and all it needed when we got our hands on it was:

-Fuel pressure regulator (had one from junk yard)
-Spark plugs
-Oil Change
-Trans fluid change
-Diff Fluid change
-Coolant Flush
-Blower Motor
-Wiper Blade
-Random Light Bulbs
-Fuses

It runs great and EASILY flies to 100MPH+....amazing how peppy that little M102 is....though, it is nowhere near as smooth or refined as the M103....and the 201 chassis is tiny.....perfect for my sister, but I would never want one as a daily driver. The only issues it has are a non-working sunroof, and one rear window has a dead motor, and the A/C doesn't engage (unimportant in MI)....that's about it!

And now for the pics! I'll post some interior ones later, it was locked so I couldn't get any good ones at that point in time....

Not bad eh? It was a Gary, IN car for most of its life....but came here 2 years ago....virtually no rust. And we bought it only 2 miles from home, closest acquisition yet!

Nice find! The headlights don't look too dull either which is common for the plastic.

Have you replaced the fuse for the sunroof? I mean replaced, not checked...These fuses can be pretty picky...

Oh it is broken....the motor works fine....one of the tilt tabs is broken, but I managed to close the roof perfectly, then unplugged the motor in the trunk. All fixed!

I too was impressed with the headlight/reverse light plastics....they are all still clear. I think it was garaged most of its life....and dealer serviced.

Yeh same deal with my 260E...had to fiddle to get it closed as a tab is broken. Where is the motor in the trunk? (or I guess is it on the 124?) I should disconnect it as well until the time comes when I want to take it all apart.

The motor is on the left side of the trunk behind the carpet near the power antenna......it has a power connector right on it that can be unplugged.

reliability

These are very nice models.i would replace ALL the fuses with a fresh set from a kit . Same for the fuel pump relay and the OVP relay .Then it will be mostly be a dependable ride.
These components are common failures around this mileage.

190E

Nice!

I had one of these but totalled it with 18k on it. What a shame. Picked up my current W124 afterwards.

Very nice vehicle. That's the exact color combination of my '92 190E and it's my favorite. For some reason I don't see a whole lot of black on black 190Es.

Me too, I like black on black on any MB. (Preferably W126)

There are virtually 0 190e 2.3's around here.....I probably see 3 190's per year....

Fuses have all been changed, pump relay and OVP were among the things replaced by the previous owner. They dumped a fortune into it prior to us buying it. It runs perfectly.

All things considered, it was probably a better buy than your 300E which was decent. Nice! I wish I could limit my buys to one a year like your family, but its been fun for me.

Eh.....I'm not sure if it was a "better buy" per say.....my 300E has/had much lower miles at purchase (133k).....0 rust at all.....being a Nevada car its whole life....and, its just a nicer car....W124 instead of W201, and M103 vs M102 (a lot more power/smoother) Also, everything works on my 300E....including the A/C and sunroof etc....

I probably overpaid slightly for my 300E...and I am admittedly a sucker for buying cars that need TLC (I like to save them..)....but around here, rust free is worth a premium.....otherwise I would have needed to drive 2000 miles to bring one home like that, which costs plenty.

This is the 300E currently:

Once it is repainted it will be nearly perfect....

Looks very nice. I looked at three 190e's, all 2.6 liters, and one 420sel before I found my 400e. I'm glad that all the 190's I looked at were in crap condition and the 420sel wasn't in the best condition. That one looks/sounds very nice. Congrats!
