Anyone try this keyless entry kit?

Just happened to stumble on this while searching for something else. I like the fact that the key is integrated into the remote like the later models did. Any cheaper place that sells this kit?

My only advice is to NOT use the key they provide. It has something to do with the metal used will over time ruin your ignition lock cylinder.

1. On the metal of the key, I seem to remember that the genuine MB keys are a harder material than most keys - but I'm not sure.

2. On the remote kit, I bought one for $42.00 on eBay and I am very satisfied with it, although the first one I received was defective. The remote I have is very small and has chrome metal around the edges so it doesn't get beat up; it has fairly good range considering that I mounted the box and antenna in the console of an '85 SL. So, price doesn't always go with quality.

A horror with pre-86 installations, however, is getting the actuators to work with the vacuum system. Once I puzzled out how to mount it and modify some parts in the kit, it was easy.

If you don't have good working locks, don't even bother with these kits until you get that straightened out first.

I'm considering putting a system on my 300E....I installed one on my 300SD with no issues. But the 300E has the convenience control module and a security system etc....so its probably more complicated to make it work properly.

Don't know about cheaper for this kit but I bought a similar kit off ebay for about $10 that had two remotes, no keys built-in. And no trunk popper, but lock / unlock which was good enough for me. Works excellent and I haven't used a key on the car ever since... probably the best $10 ever spent on the car.

Tap the wires at the trunk latch switch, it controls all doors and alarm.

No I am not kidding...Like what Strife said, that is what I "heard" a while back. I can't find the thread, but the poster mentioned that he found metal scrapings all over his lock cylinder which caused it to fail prematurely.

If you want to use the flipper, get a new Mercedes key cut then get it put on the new holder. Don't use the metal provided and simply get it cut. You may regret it in the long run.

I am watching this thread as I would like to install one in my wagon in the future some day.
