Moving Shift Knob - Wierd!

Hey gang.

Quick Question: When driving my 88 260e... the shift knob moves back a little when I brake... and forward a little when I accellerate. Why? Is the transmission loose? Should I worry? It's NOT trying to jump out of gear... the knob just moves a little.

The knob doesn't really "sit" in the "D" position when driving... it's "north" of D a bit. I can move it to the D position... but it moves just a hair north when I take my hand off.

Thanks. Oops... that was way more than one question!

Michael B.

Shifter boshings. Search on it.

this is a common item. I have replaced mine twice in a year.

But I like to use my shifter alot.

My mech just changed them a month ago, but I think they may have come apart or out, because my shifter is sloppy again. But he'll fix it for me no problemo.

It is Able to be done DIY, but I prefer to just let my mech do it. he has all the right tools and the lifts to boot.

Alon
