air/fuel mixture again
my mechanic loves to adjust my air fuel mixture..when he bumbs it it smells like gas..rocks up and down and trys to pull forward (feel in the engine feels like chuncks of something flowing through either the oil system or fuel system) and drinks gas
so I adjusted it got it right then the oil pressure gauge freaked out sometimes it would read right then other times it would read to high and I get a feeling it had that chunk feeling but not pulling forward or drinking gas...the idle would be normal and not bounce. so I took it back on friday...he bumped it back up..I smell gas, pulls forward, and chunk feeling again. I was told he adjusted it just a touch (well it took a good 3 inch turn to turn it back) Is there a machine this can be hooked up to and set that idle right? according to the CD I have the oil pressuge pump is bad but they dont think it is bad.. anyone with any ideas? beside sending the mechanic back to school? benzat 1982 380 SEC |

I would definitely suggest the school thing.
It would be really great if I could get one piece of knowledge across about mixture adjustments. That one thing is this: any car that has an oxygen sensor (1980 and above) AND is functioning properly can not be made to run better or worse by adjustments. IF YOU ARE adjusting a car (in this catagory) and are changing the way it runs then the car is BROKE! AND the only thing any of this has to do with oil pressure is engine speed.

so what could cause the oil guage to bounce like that any ideas?
I was thinking the oil pressure guage? the O2 sensor was changed about 2 years ago and 15,000 this car has an attitude for parts...I get one thing fixed and it wants more parts...*L* wouldnt trade it for the world benat (benz with an attitude) 1982 380 SEC |

Steve,
How much adjustment can the oxygen sensor do, especially in a 85 190E 2.3? I guess if the mixture is totally out of line, it won't be able to get it totally back, right? just checking, since i just got my O2 sensor replaced, which solved a bunch of problems I had been having the last one year. Also, does a working O2 sensor mean that the fuel mixture adjustment on cold engine is also redundant? thanks. |

I know this will probably sound stupid, but how the heck do you adjust the mixture? I can't find any adjustment screws that look like they'll do that.
