anyone delt with a 1980 500sel?
 

is that a W107 ? anyone know any details on this car, engine number 116? thanks

I'm assuming that your car looks like a North American S-Class car, example the 1984-1985 500sel . If that's the case then it should be a W126 body which was produced from 1980 -1991.

The engine should be a 117.- - -
I'm not sure what the last 3 are, because it's probably a grey market car.


A W107 is for a 2 door convertible "SL" or a 2 door coupe "SLC"
produced from 1971- 1989 and the 116 engine code does not seem to be one that belongs to a 500.....maybe for a 280, 300, 350, 380, 420, but not a 500.

Again I'm not 100% sure, but that's my understanding.

I have a full line broucher for model year 1980 and there was no 500SEL, just the 450SEL. W107 is actually R107 and it is indeed the infamous "SL". The "116" is the chassis number for the "S" class cars produced from '73-'80. In the U.S. the W126 chassis followed the W116, starting model year 1981. I don't know the all the engine numbers for the gas engines. I am more familar with the diesels.

There were several hundred 500SLC's made in that year, is that what you are seeing?

Kind of hard to tell but I got a magnifying glass out and it appears to be a 116 chassis 450se. Leave it there! It looks bad and would cost a small fortune to restore.(i.e. Bill Gates)

I was thinking of just getting the tranny
 

I emailed the guy to get me a price....also emailed him to get me a engine number...maybe that will help to find out what this thing is...I'll keep you all posted.
