w126 alarm help
If anyone has an answer to this please email me.
My 1986 560 SEL alarm has gone haywire! It has been getting more and more sensitive so I have been locking an unlocking from the trunk. Now the alarm just goes off even when the doors aren't locked and even while I am driving!! This problem is so annoying if there is an immeadiate fix please email me @ mdcarroll@ymail.com I am desperate! |
It is a 24 year car, just disconnect the control unit under the passenger carpet & dead pan.

I agree 100%, did this on my W126s. No one is going to steal them. |
X3. Just pull up the floorboard on the passenger side, disconnect the 2 large cable harnesses going to the wedge shaped box that says "Becker Autoradio" on it. There is literally nothing more to it than that. Every thief worth a salt knows how easy it is to disconnect that thing anyway, so it offers you very little protection.

but if you want it to work, just for kicks and giggles... my problem was solved once my mechanic figured out that my trunk light wire had worn and was shorting against the hinge. also solved the slow drain on my battery.
my alarm would just go off periodically while locked and sitting in the parking lot until a good still wind would jar the car and probably rock it enough to short the wire. also check every door switch and hood switch. |
Yeah, I finally gave up on mine; the passenger lock mechanism got tired and wouldn't always pop up enough to turn off the alarm. A little WD40 fixed that, but the alarm still misbehaved. I actually have a new lock plunger in the garage, just too lazy to install it, since the oiled one works fine with the alarm unplugged. One of these days I might try to get it working again for grins, but as Hitman said, who would want to steal one of these?
Then again, she's part of the family now. DG |
