EHA/ Fuel issue 1991 300e

So i wrote about this a long time ago...it is a friends 1991 300e that refuses to go fast. Basically, you have to really hit the gas hard for the car to move..seems to open up after that....some of the guys over here suggested a faulty EHA. So i finally got to work on the car this weekend. I bought new EHA seals, and i used EHA unit off ebay just for testing. took things apart, and noticed a very dirty area around the EHA, and the fuel delivery system in general. replaced the old EHA with the new/used one and new seals....the car started fine, but upon trying to drive it, it would barely move...same problem, but even worse...i took things apart again, and noticed that the adjustment screw on the new unit is in a different location than the original one......

other problems the car have: it tends to die after driving really fast on the highway and coming to a stop...seems to be flooded with fuel, and there is a smell of fuel on occasion...

also, the car seems to stay in gear for a long time(high rpm) before shifting to the next gear..it does it on all gears ..i am not sure if these are related problems....

so my questions are: what is the deal?

can i reset the adjustment on the EHA, or is that in need of scanning/ computerized equipment to adjust?

what is the next logical step?

P.S new cap and rotor, wires, sparks, and O2 went into this car recently...no oil in coolant, and no coolant in oil...engine is spotless (head gasket and valve job done around 1.5 years ago).....

thanks,

Have you tried loosening the exahust for possible clogged cat? Comming to a stop and stalling could be due to faulty EGR valve, possibly two diff. causes.

It only comes to a stop and die when really floored on the highway...in normal driving, engine purrs like a kitten, and it never stalls or dies......very smooth and stable idle....this is a very well maintained car in general.....on acceleration, it is either starving for fuel or suffocating....

Maybe the problems are unrelated as you said....

I see you are in Florida, and I would bet your problem is fuel related.

So i dug into this more today...there is fuel coming out of the EHA (through the electric plug) i guess it is time for a new one...this is not a plug and play application i guess, and the new part needs to be calibrated, or is it something i could do myself?

thanks,
