Hello all,
Thought I'd post an introductory thread. I was recently fortunate enough to acquire a 1991 300 SE that's in great shape. It was a one owner car and has 147,000 Kms on the odo. Dealer serviced throughout its life, with all documentation. cheers |
Sharp lookin' ride. Welcome

Congrats on the purchase of a great Mercedes. This is one of the best forums around, I have learned more here than any other forum on the internet. These guys know their stuff!

Thanks for the warm welcome.
Update... The new baby went off last week for her safety inspection and exhaust sniffing and passed both with flying colours. She's now all registered and legal in ON. cheers |
You're really going to love that car. I love mine.
Some say it's a slow car, but I say they don't know how to drive it. Using the shifter in driving is mandatory for good acceleration, and keeping the motor in the 3K RPM range will keep it in the power band. The gas pedal must be pressed ALL the way down and then FURTHER until the kickdown switch clicks before it will behave like a car at WOT is supposed to behave. Also, don't be afraid to drop it down to 3rd to pass on the highway. 3rd gear is good to 90MPH in that car! Just watch out for red-line because the auto fuel cut off is a really rude thing to do to your car. Watch out for the typical front timing cover leak (search here) and run top tier fuel in it. Watch your oil consumption carefully, do not depend on the low oil light which can be hit or miss. Valve guide seals will get hard and leaky, and the result will be about a quart of oil for every two tanks of gas, plus plugs that keep fouling. |
