Won't crank is there a way to start in a pinch?
I'm looking at possibly buying a 94 300e tomorrow that won't start. It might be an electrical issue. I don't want to spend hours troubleshooting it until I have time.
I'd suspect: 1. Starter 2. Starter Wiring 3. Neutral Safety Switch 4. Battery Is there a way to get it started in a pinch? I can think of a way mechanically... tow strap it up to around 25mph and put the shifter in low gear (2 on the shifter???) What are my options to try electrically? thanks! |
The 2nd pump in the transmission which make it possible to tow start went away for the 1991 model year :(

Bummer on the no tow starting. Next option, if I jumper the wires on the starter, I should be able to get it to crank right?
(assuming the starter is ok and that it's getting 12v and enough current). |
Probably could be done, but
Why not ship or tow the thing home to get it sorted out. Seems like so many want the car(on the Forum) and can't stand the cost of getting it home. Make it a part of the buy. Say car is looking to sell for $2000.00. But it's a nonrunner and you have to get it home and you know that will cost you $300.00. Tell the seller that you will go $1700.00 unless he has it running for you when you get there. Remember, there is rarely a line of folks waiting to buy a non running car. Getting it home is just a part of the cost of buying the car.

On the inner-firewall near the brake booster is a 3-pin plug. Running 12v to the starter pin on that plug will bypass the Neutral Start Switch and the ignition switch.
