What is the main function of the ball stud lifter . this is simular to a hyd lifter on the american cars with push rods. how do they function and why would they hold only the 4 intakes open on 5678 cyl scratiching my head?

Yes, they are hydraulic lifters.
UNlike many cars they do require setting of the base height. There are 8 different size shims available to make that adjustment. |
