W126: intermittent screeching noise from rt rear wheel
 

This happened rather quickly.

I had new rear brakes done about 9,000 miles ago, last spring. Fine. Recently, oh about 3-4 weeks ago, the brakes started squeeling just a little at times upon stopping. Nothing abnormal.
No grinding.

However, this morning, on I-595, I started getting more squeel and pulsating squeeling - and not just during braking. Braking changed the noise, so I think its the brakes, but it got progressively louder.

I'm at work now and left the car with my better fix-it pro. It is coming from the left rear wheel.

What do you think the possibilities are?

(One more note: in the last few months, I've been gettng somewhat of a bounce from my rear between 70-80 mph, which smooths out after a while. Could this haven been related to that?)

Sounds like the problem I had with my 240D and that was a bad wheel bearing. I was screeching in CA but then the noise went away so I didn't have it looked at. By the time I got to TX the wear was so bad that the brakes didn't work because the rotor was rubbing on the pads. The heat was great, it melted the wheel cover. It ruined the bearing carrier so the entire a-frame section that is integral with the bearing carrier had to be replaced.
Don't make the same error I did. Get it checked immediately. You might check it yourself by checking for any play in the wheel after you jack up the car.

What do you mean exactly by play in the wheel? Ability to rotate it, or being loose?

Problem apparently solved.

My trusty local tech just cleaned out the accumulated dirt and debris in the parking-brake drum on rear, and sound, etc., has disappeared. He charged me almost nothing for it.

Can you imagine if I had taken it to an MB dealer?

I thought I sent this before but somehow it got lost.

By "play" I meant looseness. If the wheel bearings are bad you can usually feel a chucking motion by pushing on one side qnd pulling on the other side of wheel with car jacked up.

I can imagine you taking it to a dealer:$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

I thought you ment you were getting rubber . I was going to qoute Mark Donohue about spinning tires. Oh hell I will anyway: When the Porche engine builders asked if he had enough horespower, He replied:

"When I can spin the tires all the way down the straightaway, Then I`ll have enough horsepower!!!!!!!!!"
