JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR . TRANSMISSION STAYS IN FIRST GEAR WITH NORMAL THROTTLE UP TO 5-6 GRAND. IT DOESN'T ACT LIKE ITS SLIPPING. REST OF GEARS SHIFT OK. IF YOU DRIVE SLOW IT WILL UP SHIFT OK. LOOKING UNDER CAR ON LEFT SIDE OF TRANSMISSION BEHIND BELL HOUSING THERE LOOKS LIKE THERE IS A SWITCH WITH BROKEN CONNECTORS AND WIRES ARE HANGING. I WONDER IF THIS IS PROBLEM . I HAVE CHECKED MITCHEL 1 AND CAN'T FIND ANYTHING ABOUT WHAT SWITCH CALLES AND WHAT IT DOES. THANKS FOR ANY HELP.

Sounds like your neutral start switch is broken/bypassed, does it now start in gear?
The shifting might be the downshift cable (search: Bowden Cable) not returning or mis-adjusted, could also be the downshift switch under the gas pedal, try un-plugging it and see if your shifting problem is cured.
