How rare is bright red in a W124 wagon?
I recently picked up a bright red 1995 E320 wagon. I've only seen a couple sedans in that color so how rare are then in a wagon? And what is the Mercedes name for that color?

In the U.S. I would say extremely rare, as black, white, smoke silver and turmaline green tended to be the colors of choice for the wagon.
In Europe they are more common, although not as much as other colors.

I don't think I have ever seen one in person, so they have to be at least moderately rare....and super rare around here! I've seen a red newer wagon, but no W124's.....

There's one in Atlanta. The same guy owns a signal red 500E, too...
But yes, very rare. |

Red, 202k miles - will be harder to sell. There's no such thing as a rare color in MB land that translates to more money; your problem will be finding someone who wants Signal Red, and there's fewer of those people out there.

Plenty of Signal Red W124's in the land of Down Under.
Red was a popular colour. Back in the late eighties early nineties, red cars were easier to sell. However the later Titanite Red was not that popular. I bought a demo model Red W210 at a very cheap price - Stealership couldn't get it off the floor. The colour need constant polishing to keep it looking good. There was a popular Australian song back in the eighties - red cars with a wireless (radio) go faster. |

Rare = money isn't always the case. Red is also rare in a 126, but few people like such a stately car in a kid color, ...
Most of the time rare means that nobody cared for it when it was first available, so they didn't make and sell many. Still, sounds interesting, I'd like it because it's unusual and would take to modifications well. Is the interior black? Palomino? Mushroom/cream-beige? A mild tint-job and 17" AMGs would really fit that car's color/look IMO, as would a monochrome job on the grillework and door handles. Play with it in photoshop and see what looks good. A friend of mine who lived in SoCal most of his career bought an ivy-green Carerra. The color was unique, looked good on the car, but not what I'd order (not available in the US, it was gray-market) but looked good. He explained to me that there were three other (911s) on his block, and black/red/silver were everywhere so he wanted one that was unique. Likely a similar story to your wagon.

I like many of MB's more rare colors - present and past.
I'm shopping for a pre-owned low-mileage, non-rust belt 2005 and up - CDI or Bluetec 4-door. I'm finding most are the following colors; black, white, and three shades of silver - repeat process - not very inspiring - nor unique. |
