Whiring Sound when going around a curve (front left wheel)
 

I've noticed that I have somewhat of a whiring sound from the wheels when driving and it gets more pronounced when going around a curve (especially left curve at higher speeds). I think it's coming from the left wheel. It's a steady whiring sound. Any ideas what this could be?

Wheel Bearings

Funny I briefly noticed the same thing on my 300E this afternoon only at lower speeds (like a parking lot). I would suspect a wheel bearing going bad.

Wheel bearings typically give more of a rumble.

Check the heat shields on the brakes, perhaps the bearing has some slop and is allowing it to touch the rotor?

Warm weather always brings out the noises, ... windows open and all.

My car had developed a persistent rumbling/growl/whirr noise on the right front, definitely more pronounced when turning. I was all ready to do the wheel bearings, since the front is definitely more manageable than the rear in most cases.

Well just before I was almost fed up with the noise..... I rotated the tires front to back..... since they were due. Well, the noise immediately disappeared and soon showed up on the rear! I tracked it down to a bent inner lip on the wheel! Got it fixed and all is well.

Most likely not your problem, but jack it up and spin the wheels, take the wheel off and inspect. :)

Inspect motor mounts.

Examine the tires for wear, or being cheap junk, before tearing into stuff. Maybe rotate the tires. Beyond that as was said, likely wheel bearing.

"TURNING" is when the motor lays over hard on the motor mounts!

Wheel bearings are supposed to be occasionally maintained. Motor mounts never.

Motor mounts fail lots more often than wheel bearings.

Acknowledge that faulty previous maintenance of wheel bearings is possible.

I'll eat a crow when motor mounts make a whirring sound from the wheels on a turn. Wheel bearings can squeak, "whirr", rumble, scrape, you name the sound and they'll make it. Going around turns puts pressure on the bearings and stresses them. OP's brakes could be scraping as well.

You would notice a bad motor mount during idle when it is jerking back and forth.

Aww, just jack up the front end and start turning the wheels by hand. It could be wheel bearings as previously stated, but it could also be something silly like a separated brake pad or a hanging caliper. My guess is that if you poke around down there for a few minutes the problem will jump right out at you.
