cargo cover/divider in C320 wagon...annoying?
We just purchased a C320 wagon (2002). It is in great shape and my wife is thrilled (I'm still mourning the loss of our diesel <grin> but getting over it every time I drive this car).
Here's my question: the cargo cover/divider rolls up into a large bar at the top of the rear seats....I'm thinking we probably won't use the cargo cover and am wondering if I should remove it...actually how I should remove it? The rear seat's are split, but the bar prevents me from putting the left side seat down with the right seat still in place (for my son to sit)....this is why I'm thinking I need to remove the bar. Is removing it inadvisable? How do I remove it (I assume that there are bolts underneath the gray plastic box-like covers on the backside but I couldn't figure out if those just popped off (my luck, I'd try to do something simple and end up breaking it....). Thanks -harv |
If it's like the E-class wagon, just lay down both rear seatbacks (right side first, of course). Then standing at the drivers' side rear door, slide the bar toward you about 2 inches, it will lift up and out of the car. No tools required, total time about 30 seconds.

ah, makes sense. I'll try it when I get home

finally got back to this...I can't get the thing to budge. Is there some trick to you like a release button or something? I looked in the owners manual and the cargo cover housing is unfortunately not even shown in it. -harv

I also have an E and it slides left a couple of inches and then lifts off. I doubt there's a different design for the C but anything is possible. It may be stuck if it's been left in place and cleaning fluid or beverages have gotten into the space between the seat and the cover. Did you try giving it a sharp shove from the passenger side of the car? You might also try tapping it about 3" in from each edge of the left seat (that's where the fasteners are located. And you might also grab the free end and wiggle it a little (left/right and up/down) while pushing.
Since getting my wagon about 2 1/2 years ago I've checked other wagons I've seen and not one has had that cover in place. I guess everyone just stores it unless really needed. HTH and good luck. |
It was just very stuck. I got on the passenger side and gave it a number of shoves with both arms and that did the trick. Thanks for the help -Harv
