loose rear wheel bearing

Yesterday I had winter tires/rims installed on my '82 300D Turbo, and the mechanic told me he noticed that one of the rear wheel bearings is loose. Can they be readjusted or does it need to be replaced? Thanks

How loose is loose? Does the bearing make any noise. They are adjustable, but adjustment should be good for the life of the bearing, which is avery long time.
