Question I'm dy(e)ing, inspect./maint. for naked interior

Hello,

I am in the process of dyeing the burgundy interior of my car black, so I have removed about everything that can be removed from the interior. What suggestions do you have for me? I have replaced all interior bulbs and run the wires for stereo upgrade in near future, what else? Replacements? Inspections?

Maybe replace the vacuum control elements for the climate control? I seem to remember there are repair kits with just the diaphragms--also there is a company that sells aftermarket vacuum elements for much less than original ones. Best of luck with your project! Andrew Seidel.

Have you removed the door panels and dashboard as well? If so, now is a good time to check the operation of the A/C...especially the evaporator, while it's easily accessible.

Good time to change out bulbs, as they dim or fail over time.

Window assemblies can be lubed and inspected for wear. On the rears, the plastic window track holder is a common failure item, and costs $2 to replace. If it does fail during operation, the cable gets snarled, and you will wind up replacing the entire assembly for $150.

On door panels, tighten any inner bolts and screws you find, as they are the source of most rattles in the cabin.

If the console is out, it's easy to get that cool burlwood shifter installed. Also the shifter bushing squeaks when it wears out, so check that too.
