W126 sunroof noise

When I have the sunroof of the 91 SE open or tilted up at speed, I hear a flapping noise. Seems to be coming from the roof cavity. The sunroof works properly. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Sixto

Never heard that noise before. Is air somehow getting into the headliner (??) Could it be the fabric "webbing" that's one each side (??) Not really sure... Have a passenger move around while your driving to isolate the sound...

It's not the side webbing that you see when the sunroof is tilted. It's taut and holding on to the webbing while moving doesn't change the noise.

Flapping is a loose description, it could be something vibrating. But I only hear it when the roof is open.

Have a look at the flap that acts as a wind deflector at the front of the sunroof. Mine was squeeking as it moved in the wind slightly.

is it a clinking sound?

When I replaced the sunroof cable, some time ago, on my 300E, I noticed a slight clicking comming from the back. As it turns out it was the cable shaking and it only occured when there was no tension on the cable. That is when the sunroof was partially open and sometimes out of nowhere. The only thing I do is open and close it a bit and the problem goes away for a long while.
I don't know what the exact case is in your car, but is it sounds similar it could be the sunroof cable.

hope this helps
