Chain Tensioner

I've looked everywhere for a timing chain tensioner for a 91 420SEL, but the only brand I've come across is Febi! I've heard that Febi tensioners fail early so I've tried to find a different manufacturer for the tensioner. Who is the manufacturer of the dealer part?

Mercedes & yes it has different internal parts than the Febi unit!

The OE part has an extra internal check valve that helps hold oil pressure to keep the chain taunt when the engine is OFF.

Wow. That's quite an important part to help reduce wear! Well, I guess now I can justify getting it from the dealer. Thanks for the info.

Call Phil. He can get an OEM tensioner. I was pleasantly surprised at the cost and the 2 day delivery. I had to change from a new Febi to the MB tensioner for the reason as described by M.B.DOC

i replaced the chain tensioner with whatever the online parts house had when i had all the guides and chain replaced on my 86 560SEL. could the noise i hear for about a second when i first start the car after it's been sitting overnight be the chain slapping around prior to the tensioner getting fully pressurized? i though i had a valve lifter making noise

The other vendor is SWAG, which traditionally stands for Scientific Wild Ass Guess.

I think Trucktec makes them to. http://www.trucktec.com/
