2002 c320 rear spring replacement
The local dealer wants 650.00 to replace the 2 rear coils. Is this a reasonably easy DIY job? Is a spring compressor necessary? Any procedural suggestions or hints will be greatly appreciated.

Dealing with springs is always dangerous!
That job should take about 1-1.5 hrs for BOTH sides. |
Dealing with springs
I agree. I have done many front spring/strut replacements, but not rear. Just wanted to know if any special tools required or just a lot of time/patience and SAFETY.

I've done a few on earlier models.
I wouldn't do it again - not for the fait hearted. I've also had compressors fail - thats what has put me off. My opinion is that $650 is worth it. Although, the back in earlier models were easy. I don't recall using a compressor - just a jack and lowering the LCA. DO NOT try this on the front springs though - DEATH is a possibilty! All that said. I would take it to the dealer. |
