W210 Garage door opener
 

My antique Sears garage door open died. Replaced it with a new model from Chamberlin. It has the rolling code security feature. Tried following the directions in the owners manual for programing the car to open to door, tried a couple times with no success.

anybody got any tips?

What year W210?? the 1996 models didn't have the ability to operate rolling codes.

Have you gone to homelink.com ?

Its a 99 model. The built in opener worked fine with the old opener, I must be missing a step in programming the rolling code feature.

I asked at homelink. That is a good resource. I previously asked at Chamberlain, no response yet.

I guess I'll just swap remotes until I get the answer.

Try this approach. Put your garage door opener in 'Learn' mode by pressing button on unit. Then press/hold one of the buttons on the visor. In other words, have the opener sync with the car instead of vice/versa. Worked for me and I have 98 and Chamberlain. Good luck.

The '97's won't work with rolling codes either.

I just held the auto's button down while holding the garage door opener's remote next to each other - holding the buttons down for about 10 seconds. I honestly don't remember the order of pushing which button's first - the car's or the remote opener - but it works fine for almost 11 years now, since buying the car.

What I did is (different model MB) held the hand held remote near the car button pressing both at the same time for 15 seconds or so THEN press the LEARN button on the GDO and go back to the car quickly and press the car button. Basically, the method I used is outlined in the 2010 E350 manual which can be seen and d/l at the MB-USA Site. Took me a couple of attempts but it worked (the manual outlines the "rolling code method" like it is a separate method but I had to do the FULL 7 or 8 steps to get mine to work).

The trick, as mentioned a couple posts ago, is to find the learn button on the door opener itself (the physical part in your garage) and push that. You'll likely need a helper with a step ladder to accomplish all this. One to stand up by the opener itself and hold the learn button, while someone else does what needs to be done in the car. With a remote unit it can be done solo, but with the homelink feature built in to the car, it takes an extra person.

I know others have mentioned the two person method but I did not find that necessary. After pressing the learn button, my opener will stay in learn mode for about 30 seconds giving plenty of time to walk over to the car and press the button. As always check your owners manual for your specific unit.

It worked
 

I found I had to start over. Delete all the codes in the drive unit, press the car's button then pushing the learn button (2 person job) the reprogramming the other cars and remotes. Not too hard, but seems it was more luck than following directions.

Hopefully any future power losses from the summer storms won't make me start all over
