I had tried the Gabriel's first, also.

What poor excuses for shocks - even with their touted gas pressurization and velocity firming control. Pure garbage.
I don't think its because the Benz is heavier. I mean, big Crown Vics use the Gabriels, as well. I think they just are cheap shocks. Beware.

Like I've said earlier, I'm glad I followed everyone's advice here on the forum. The shock/struts work well.

I took the car out to Redwood Rd (Castro Valley, CA for those local folks) and drove approximately 8/10ths to check handling and the car's overall composure. I was surprised at how nimble and confidence-inspiring the car handled. In comparison to my other car (Miata), the ride was supple and obviously the heavier Mercedes wasn't as quick around the corners. However, the disparity isn't that much, and I drove the MB around feeling less tense and more relaxed (maybe because the Miata was twitchier, torque-steer prone and smaller in comparison).

Next.... autocross! I'm serious!!!

How did you remove the front stuts? Did you use a spring compressor?


BTW .... have you driven route 9 or gone up the Mt. Hamilton road? Great drives.

Strut removal was as easy as the shock removal. The springs do not need to be compressed (but be careful), and all that's needed is removing the top strut nut, and three more bolts at the wheel arms. Should take you less than an hour per side, TOPS!

Yep, I've taken the Mt. Hamilton route through Mines Rd. in Livermore, and I've also done the Junction to Patterson route as well, but all this on a two-wheeled vehicle which I sorely miss.
