124 Fuel Tank Removal

I have to replace the fuel tank in my 91 300e. I have found a used one from a guy parting out a 89 300e. I have searched, but can not find a tutorial for the job on a 124. Can some one give me any tips on the job. I have done most all the work on this car and feel confident in my ability but would appreciate any help you may offer.

What happened to your tank? Pull trunk panel out, unbolt brackets, unhook wires, unhook neck and unhook line underneath car to tank. and it should just pull out.

The sender unit separated from its top and rubbed against the inside of the tank, creating a hole. I've got a manual, so I have a pretty good idea of the job. Just looking for any info or tips to help. Thank you for you input.

Bunksbbq,
Would you be good enough to post a step by step write up of the tank removal, especially the hoses under the car. Thanks.

Not a difficult job, needs some time to have it done carefully and safely.

There is a kind of glue/adhesive on the attachements (4) of the tank to the back of the rear seat. So you will have to pull a bit strongly when the nuts are removed.

You need a 45 mm wrench (if I remember correctly) to tighten the hose that goes from the tank to the pump/filter

One thing be extremely carefull with leaks when reinstalling to fuel tank.

Good luck
