The vented ATEs that I got for my w124 (off of this site) are pretty sweet! No comments on how long they will last though, haven't had them for too long.

here's a secret

brake jobs are the biggest profit maker for repair shops there is, truth, the single largest point of profit...like soft drinks at a 7/11 or McDonalds....Oh! you need your rotor turned, Oh! your caliper is locked, Oh! the master cylinder is leaking..Oh just give me 700 bucks and you may have brakes again! Tell you what, I got estimates from local repair shops for my 1990 300TE front discs....lowest $275.....I did it for $18 myself, AutoZone pads and 45 minutes...brakes work great.....turning rotors!

you have understand

that people are deathly afraid of HAVING THE BRAKES FAIL on the car are willing to pay virtually ANYTHING to have them fixed....without question even...car repair shops know this...who else might know this type of fear and exploit it?

I have had many "$18" brake jobs last far less time than paying for better things. Cheap rotors warp more easily, cheap pads create more dust and higher wear rates. I'd rather be one and done with it for a few years, been there and done that. I'll pay decent money for decent rotors that won't warp as easily (which btw, makes them unable to be turned) and pads that will stop my car better for longer. I'd rather penny pinch elsewhere.

I've had rotors warp on my old 300E.

I will say, I don't think turning does anything for warped rotors, except make them more likely to warp again from shaving off rotating mass.

In between your 10-minute-interval repetitive and generally uninformative posts, perhaps you should read up on metal alloys and brake disc design. I used to sell these things on a daily basis and I can assure you they are not all the same.

Most the time rotors are not actually warped but give the feeling they are due to high and low friction points caused by differently heated areas on the disc. This is why you'll feel it most slowing from a high rate of speed--you're generating more heat. The brakes on my 300E had this before I replaced them as well, and I've had cheap rotors do it on me after a year or two on other cars.

Cliffmac, I plan on doing the whole job by myself, as I have done this before and feel confident about it.
However, I will only use OEM parts, except maybe the pads

Well when I get stuck with German I either use babelfish (which usually gives a general idea of what is happening) or have a look on a more expensive site http://www.teiledirekt.de (which is in English) and transfer the part numbers across from site to site until I get a good price!
