hi everyone! i just bought a 1981 280ce convertible, i think it was built by coach. no nothing about 6cyl w123s. runs alittle off and seems to be horrible on gas. the wife wanted a convetible that she could drive the kids so i bought it. doors open and close perfect and it has 100k only a few rust spots but mostly solid.

The first thing I would do is do a full tune up if it hasnt already been done.

-Plugs
-Rotor /Dis Cap
-Air filter
-Leads

Really would depend on what the history of the car has been.

Wow, that's a cool conversion! Please post more pics when you get a chance!!

I would also do a full tune up. If that doesn't improve things, do a baseline fuel pressure check.

what are leads? i plan on doing everything else. runs ok but seems to have a miss.

Heyyyy, carefull there lol I'm a Kiwi, not an Ozzie.

Thats like calling an American a Canadian...

I've got a '78, if '81 is also non overdrive don't expect good mpgs. Mine seems to be pretty marginal like 15 or so.

bugpak 05-10-2010 01:28 AM

can an overdrive be put in?

DieselPaul 05-10-2010 02:11 AM

Not my area of expertise. Sorry. I just know that a 280CE isn't easy on gas, but as cool as it makes me feel I look, it's worth it.
