Fangio,

The car should be dropped off later this week. You are more than welcome to stop by and see it. I would love to see your car as well. I don't work at Autostrasse, but I do know the guys there pretty good. My background is mechanical engineering from UofM and I worked for Porsche for a while until I started my own company which provides internet search services. I had to sell my old 500E to start this company and I have been looking to get another one ever since.

Hi,
Try these: Noels 800-733-6635

Metric Mtors 818-712-9881

They both do Mercedes Long or Shortblocks , and both have advertised in The Star for years.

Thumbs up

NICE grab...sounds like a perfect opportunity to build a crazy motor , for track purposes of course.

I just spoke to my local MBZ parts guy. With discount, a long block 5.0 M119 (includes oil pan, heads & complete valvetrain, timing gear, the whole shebang except intake manifold & exhaust headers) can be had for $12,950. Also, the dealer called in to MBUSA and was told there are no 6.0 M119 motors for sale from the factory. Neil, do you know something they don't? Do you have a part number?

Isn't the 6.0 M119 motor the SL60's engine?
I remember reading articles on how good the SL is with the 6.0 engine (faster than the V12 6.0 because it's lighter)

That'd be awesome.. then you can really put 600E..
It's an AMG engine..

Go for the gusto. RennTech could probably make some monster with 500hp. Cost more than a typical bungalow in the 'burbs, but hey, whoever said speed was cheap...?

It would appear that the AMG Euro SL 6.0 motor is unavailable here in the US

Pic of previous '92 500E

I thought you guys might be interested in a pic of the other 500E that I had. It was absolutely immaculate but had 120K on it. I sold it about two years ago to a man in Jackson, MI. I wonder if he still has it.

As promised here are pictures of my new project. I looked the car over pretty good and it has never been painted or been in an accident. Any body damage on the car is minor (from a professional perspective), no rust, and after a good cleaning, the interior will be in great shape. Needs a headliner though. At one time some electrical control modules were taken off the car so I do have to go through and replace those. It doesn't look like it has ever been worked on by any shadetree mechanics so in all I'm very pleased. For those of you that asked, yes this is the 500E that was listed in Autotrader for $7995. Next on the list is to pull the motor and determine exactly what it needs. The wheels are going in the dumpster as soon as my Evo II's get here. Still haven't decided on tire choice.

I can save you some dumpster space. Just ship me the wheels? Ah heck I'll even pay for the shipping.

Ve-dee, Ve-dee nice!

What a nice little journey this build up is going to be following your work progress. Any more thoughts on the engine questions you had?

PS I think Italianbenz had a line of a 500e tranny rebuild costing about $1k from one of his buddies in So. Cal. if your interested.

Stan,

See my earlier post-a brand new crate motor from MBZ is less than $13k.

However, for a few thou more, the current motor can be turned into a 6.0 by RENNTech...

That car's Almandine Red, same as mine. The lower color is called Navarra Red.

Good luck with the car!

I believe Satish of (http://www.mbcoupes.com) has a source for the Euro 6.0L motor, which is probably Tom Hanson at Caliber Motors in Anaheim Hills, California.

Give Tom a call: http://www.calibermotors.com
