Transmission Leak
What is this? and how do I change it? it seems to be a vacuum line ....
could this be sucking transmission oil into the manifold? the line coming out of it goes through the body and I don't see where/ if it goes into the engine..the elbow is completely torn, and there is some good oil coming out of it.... http://i893.photobucket.com/albums/a...Q/IMG_4253.jpg http://i893.photobucket.com/albums/a...Q/IMG_4252.jpg In the second picture you can see it leak, it is not the red shift modulator that is leaking..that seems to be fine Thanks guys |
It looks like a 2-3 transmission overload protection relay. There was a good post somewhere on this forum where someone actually pulled one out and replaced it, but I can't find it now. I talked to my tech about how to get a big socket around that nut holding it in place and he said that it is easier to hit the edge of the nut with an air chisel to get it loosened, because of the lack of space between the transmission and the tunnel.
I'm not sure if all the cars have this or just the V-8's. |
yeah, i kind of figured out what is was after searching.
Any harm from leaving it leaking as long as it is working? how can i determine it is working correctly? this car will need a transmission rebuild soon ........ |
The part from the dealer is kind of expensive--around $160. If it is not working correctly, you should get a code that indicates that. I don't know what code it is on the 300-series, but it is a dtc 8 (switch not closing) or dtc 9 (switch not opening) on pin 17 (Ignition Control Module) for the 400-series.
I have read that the relay sends a signal to the ignition control module to retard the timing a very small amount before shifting, which has the effect of reducing the engine load on the transmission. This would make sense because the dtc is on the Ignition Control Module. I wish I could find that post. It is hard to find much doing a search under "transmission overload protection." Maybe someone else can chime in. |

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/tech-help/144744-some-serious-transmission-help-asap.html?highlight=transmission+overload I think my switch is leaking too, but I'm not sure I want to mess with it. |
