Part identification/Repairs needed?

4 Attachment(s)
Hey guys,

I recently cleaned my engine compartment, but noticed a few things that I have no idea what they are. I assume some are weird relays and such, but if you could tell me what they are, that'd be sweet.

One is this cable with a screw section between the two lines next to the ABS unit.

One is my battery's positive cable with grounds? Do I need to repair it? Looks kinda shot.

The other two are of my instrument cluster; specifically my rpms after I let the car sit for an hour after an hour of driving.

Is it low?

P.S. its a 5.6L M117.

Thanks,

Carlen

Forgot this thing; also next to the ABS.

Looked kind of important...

The battery cable, as far as I can see looks OK, but there are add-ons on the end of the bolt which too me look sort of butchered, so those could maybe be improved upon or even relocated to the starter terminal or fusebox.

The RPMs look fine, it's not stalling at all is it?

The cable thing I believe is just for the hood release cable.

The last pic is a part called the EZL, which is a German accronym for the ignition control unit. It's for the spark plugs, in other words.

What is up with you temperature gauge? It looks like it is pegged past 120.

I have no idea whats up with my temp gauge. I'm assuming a bad thermostat, as it will fluctuate CRAZILY after it hits 85 C. Like, one second it'll be 85, the next it will fly to 100, then back to 90, then it 'sticks' at over 120, but if I hit the top of the dash, it falls back down and levels at 85.

Bad sensor I guess? Which one?

Alright, I thought the cable was okay, those add-ons scare me too. Any clue as to what they are to?

As for the RPMs, it consistently will stall after the first ignition. It will go to 700, back to 500-ish, and then the car will stumble, with the economy gauge going to the midway point, and then stall.

Upon a restart, she purrs like a kitten.

Any idea what that could be from? Its getting a huge tune-up soon, hopefully that will fix something.

I had no idea what the EZL was; I figured it was somewhere, and I also thought it was one of the little 'computer' boxes in the back. Thanks!

Tuneup might help. Check the plugs, if they are worn out or resistor plugs it can cause that. You need to find the proper non-resistor plugs for this car.
No idea what the addons might be, guessing stereo system? Look around for added-on things????

The car at one point had a car phone; that's probably it  I'll un hook em and see what turns off I guess.

As for the spark plugs, they were changed 35,000 miles ago; is that about right?

She's due for the whole rotor and distributor cap deal; gonna do the coolant with the acid flush while I'm at it...

I've never done any of that kind of stuff before, just eccentric repairs.

CHECK the plugs and make sure they are non-resistor plugs.
I would just CHANGE the coolant, I wouldn't use anything to CLEAN the inside of the block, just change the coolant.
They are not "due" for caps and rotors, those are replaced based on condition, saying it is "due" makes it sound like there is some arbitrary interval you replace them at.
For the excess wires, right, phone, amps, different radios, radar detector plugs, you can try tracing down the wires, I can't remember if there might be a factory one on there as well, it's possible.

My 2 cents, replace the coil or the tune up is a waste.
