Under Hood Heat Insulation
I recently noticed the pad, which is glued to the underside of my hood to prevent heat from damaging the paint above, is dried out and starting to flake apart.
I found the replacement part online for a reasonable price, but I'd like to know: What's the easiest way to remove the old, dried out one? It's probably going to flake apart and be time consuming. And: What adhesive do I use to attach the new one? Thanks. |
It's messy, but pretty easy. Old sheets over engine and front fender/grill area to "catch" debris. Tear off what you can and scrape the rest of the pad+adhesive with a dullish putty knife. Use 3M adhesive remover on remaining adhesive. Clean and dry area. Use 3M trim adhesive (they make a spray can version) and follow directions on the 3M can or tube (if you use that).

Rich126,
Would you give me your online source for the heat insulation pad you found. My '83 300 cd is in the need of a replacement. Thanks. Marks88 |
Check the PartsShop inventory at the top of this page. I think I saw it there last year.
[I should be buying one myself....] [but it is winter...] |
