I know that a frequency valve is used on volvos at least early models with CIS injection system. It is a pulse width modulated valve that is used to control the air / fuel mixture and is driven by the Lambda computer. MB uses a device called EHA (electro hydraulic actuator) to do the same thing. I question if your mechanic really knows what is wrong or maybe he is trying to baffle you with bull----. You didnt say what the problem was or what type of car it is.

You tell if it is bad by checking to see if the on-off ratio is working correctly and is in closed loop mode. If it is regulating correctly everything is OK otherwise it might be defective but other things in the system can cause it run open loop.

1982 V-8s do use a frequency valve

Piece of cake to change. An easy DIY project that should take all of 5 minutes. It looks like an EFI injector with a hose fitting on the end.

Make sure to get the mixture adjusted (on-off ratio) after installation.

thats my problem I think the mechanic is full of fuel air or oil mixture

so Im taking it to another place today and see what they say

what I have is my oil pressure guage on the dash bounce..
that mechanic did a fuel pressure check and it was fine..then did his computer to the O2 sensor..flat line then the lamba computer flat line and then to the idle control valve and relay still flat line

then he comes out and tells me its the fuel frequency valve and the oil temp switch..its doesnt make sense to me..so I called another guy I get parts from and he said its the OVP so thats what Im having checked out today
