89 300E New Reservoir grommets/pumps leak

I just installed new reservoir grommets and new pumps and the fluid still drips around both grommet seals. Was I supposed to use some tupe of sealant before inserting the grommets into the reservoir? I did clean the area very well before application, and the new pumps are pushed all the way down. Thanks in advance for your reply.

I take it you are talking about the windshield washer res?

Did you buy those grommets at the dealer? They should require a decent amount of force to seat them properly. Do they look like they are all the way down?

Yes, windshield washer reservoir. Thanks for the tip....the washers went in very easily. I found the problem. The OEM grommets I purchased were for the coolant lines. Funny thing is they matched the ones I removed. Thanks again for your help.

i found that it is very easy to install them if you first place the grommet in the hole, then set the pump into the grommet, I believe this is the way that they were designed to install. I nearly squashed the bottom of the reservoir by first trying to put the pump and grommet in at the same time.

I have found those seals to be pesky. I have 2 because of the headlight washers. I did cheat with a clear silicone sealant for one side let it dry ten pushed in pump, cause shrunk rubber can sometimes just not be pliable enough to seal.
