self-leveling diagnostic 83 300TDT

Not to beat a dead horse, but I have a self-leveling system that is sagging. When I operate the leveling valve by hand the rear of the car will raise and there are no leaks present. I have read all of the past post on this subject but I feel that nothing is broken on my system. Can I simply adjust the lever accordingly?

I am also changing the oil and filter this week.

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Change the spheres it will do wonders for your sagging and general ride comfort. Moving the lever will just mask the problem not cure it .

Thank you Hamish. After further inspection, I did notice a small leak on one of the shperes. I did make a small adjustment to the valve so "my rear has risen" but bumps are still very hard.

Thanks again,

I too own an '83 TD with a bit of a sagging backend. I know for a fact that with the car loaded down, she won't raise up to level. I haven't played with anything underneath the car, but there is plenty of fluid in the resevoir. What is involved in replacing the "spheres"?

Rick, I have a few articles from people that have completed the repair themselves. If you would like them, let me know.

That would be great. I noticed though you don't have an e-mail address attached to your posting. You can e-mail me with it, just click on the e-mail button below my reply.

It took me 3hours to do the spheres not hard but a little messy! The spheres tend not to leak but as I understand it they have a diaphram that seperates a gas from the fluid and as you go over bumps the diaphram moves absorbing the bumps hence when they go the ride becomes hard!!As they go down hill gradually you do not notice how bad the ride is until it is terrible and new spheres seem like a new car!!
Get youself a new car, change them!!
