W126: front spring pads

Query: Can deteriorated spring pads affect ride quality besides ride height? Also: Can hardened or brittle spring pads transmit more road vibration through the frame?

Thanks.

hard spring pads

when the rubber spring pads get old and hard, they do allow more road harshness to get through. Also , shock absorber rubber gets hard, suspension arm bushing rubber gets hard, etc.

I am replacing my spring pads with 1 bump pieces in about a fortnight so I will try and see if there is any noticable difference. I would imagine that all the other bushings and the like could probably all be replaced which would provide a dramatic difference in ride quality.

Do you guys think that pad replacement is only an advanced DIY'er job?

What's involved?

And which #pad should be installed? (hard decision to make).

Thanks.

Replacing the pads is about the same procedure as replacing the springs. A compressor is required to compress the spring to allow the pad to be removed and replaced. Unless you have the correct MB compressor this may be a slightly tricky job.

As Mattman stated, tricky indeed and dangerous if you do not have the correct spring compressor. MB shops use the plate compressor that goes around the entire coil and compresses up and down from there.

I suggest either renting one of these plate compressors or have an undercarriage shop replace your springs for you.

Good luck~

spring pads

I've heard you can adjust the height of the vehicle with different size spring pads. I know for the 107's the pads come in 9.5mm, 14mm and 19mm.
