to buy or not to buy? Need advice!

A knucklehead down the street bought a 1953 MB 300C Adenauer and, rather than repair the drive train, dumped it and stuck a 350 Pontiac drive train into it. He ripped out the tranny linkage, cut a hole in the floor and that's where the tranny shift is.

Now he wants to sell it because, guess what? he's out of money.

I'd never drive this car with a GM engine, so....looking at my options:

-- Find an M189 drive train and put it in (VERY EXPENSIVE)

-- Replace with a more common MB inline 6 or V8 having at least 175 HP to power this big ol' car Maybe a 250 or 280 power train?

-- Leave as is

-- Pass it up.

Opinions please.

He hasn't even decided what he wants for it.

I am also thinking about letting him keep the Pontiac drive train and cut the price.

This is a strange situation.

Before you shoot him (joking but not much) offer him $250 for his now 'parts car'. Did he keep the old motor and if not where did he take it ?

Do you have room to store it while its again becoming roadworthy ?

I can't believe he did this to that car. He didn't even try to fix the drive train before he hauled it off as SCRAP.

I am so P O'd about this.

He still doesn't know what he wants for it.

I could find a place to stick it for 35/month that is safe.

Buy it from him and start daily using the craigslist wide search engines looking for a motor and drive train.

Let him shop it around for a bit (someone might want just what he is offering - but unlikely) and he will see what a tough market it is out there and his price will come down. Either way, wait a bit and you win.
